Portugal Exchange to Summer Novidades

17 Jun

Today a group of exchange students from Portugal (descendants of Cape Verdean immigrants) came to the Associação Chã Matias for a catxupa lunch. The integration between the two student groups was minimal, which was a bit disappointing and contrary to the idea of the lunch, but they were also different age groups so it might have been to awkward to try to force them into some weird bonding game for 2 hours of their life. The food was great and the center kids were fun as usual, it had been a long time since I stopped at the community center. During the summer I’m planning on getting over there more often to run a lifeskills program and do some recycled craft projects with the kids. Plus, I ran into the girls from the So.Pro.Sal project (a partnership with the NGO Africa 70) and they are interested in having Tchuca and I work together to give a formação (course) on crocheting, beading, bag making and accessories in general as an income generating work. We’ll see where that heads…
